THE BEST WAYS TO LOOK AMAZING ON NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY
The American Heart Association has declared Feb, 5 National Wear Red Day. In case you’re unfamiliar with the movement, it’s a really important one.
According to the AHA website, “Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year, it’s 80% preventable.” It’s not a cutesy cause that affects only a portion of the population, chances are good that a woman in your life is at risk right now.
So wear red, consider sharing the hashtag #GoRed and donate to help raise funding.
And in case you’re not quite sure how to wear this bold and bodacious hue, here’s a handy dandy slideshow with suggestions for red from head to toe.
START AT THE TOP
It’s easy to add a small hair accessory to show that you’re in the red. A trendy red slouchy hat or even these vintage inspired bobby pins by Odeme add some color to your day. Gilt will have a special Valentine’s collection including a pink White + Warren Honey Comb Cashmere hat.
With Valentine’s Day just around the bend, it’s fine to look a little flushed and wear your blush a shade slightly pinkier or even coral or pale red to give you that loved up look. Dolce & Gabbana Beauty Voyage Make Up Essential Palette is a limited edition palette that you can pack in your purse to take you from work to flirt. Bonus- you can add a deep red lip or smokey eye in no time. Prefer your red a bit more subtle? IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush 4-in-1 Reviver Lipstick Stain is a bit of a one-man band lip product. It tints lips, softens and won’t budge for hours. Or try this gorgeous red gloss and stain in one made with a mostly natural formulation.
TIE ONE ON
I was so happy to see that chic little neck scarves are making a comeback this spring. Why not start early with an adorable heart adorned version? Or a more dramatic red shawl that can be draped any which way?
I’m more than tired of basic black, especially during the endless winter months. Even if it’s not cold where you live, a pair of red gloves can add a little sass to your wardrobe. Land’s End will even monogram your initials on this pair which combine leather and touch pad friendly fabric. Not convinced? I’m guessing you’ll have a hard time resisting these over the top dramatic satin opera gloves. Even if everyone at work teases you, you can say that you’re wearing them for a good cause!
KEEP IT HANDY
If you’re not sure about wearing red in a very obvious way, you can try a wristlet for your phone and credit cards. this one by Baggallini also has an Rfid -blocking liner to protect from identity theft scanners. Or invest in a crossbody bag that will ease the burden on your tired shoulders, Carina by Hedgren has a zillion pockets to hold all of your important stuff.
WEAR YOUR HEART ON YOUR SLEEVE
If you want to give only the slightest nod to Wear Red Day, this Hugs n’ Kisses sweater by ColdWater Creek lets everyone know what’s on your mind. The sequins in this pullover by DKNY jeans mean that you can definitely pair with jeans or a cute skirt for going out on the town.
RUBY SLIPPERS AND HOT SOCKS
You don’t have to save the cute red shoes for special occasions. These red woven Mary Janes by Bernie Mev are both comfortable and adorable. Or try an old school pair of sneakers in red hot red paired with on trend over the knee socks with a red bow.
A NOD TO THE DAY
Just because it’s Wear Red Day, doesn’t mean that you have to drape yourself in red, either. A red bra will be your little secret (unless you choose to share!). A sparkly pair of Kate Spade heart shaped earrings will show the world you care. And a delicious Sweetheart Swizzle strawberry arrangement from Edible Arrangements (yum!) left on your desk will alert others to your commitment while adding a delicious treat to their day.
