7 PRODUCTS THAT DESERVE TO BE IN THE DRUGSTORE HALL OF FAME
It seems like every time I read a beauty roundup there’s a mention of a certain pink and green tube of mascara as being the be-all and end-all product.
While I love Maybelline Great Lash mascara, I think there are plenty of brands and products that deserve to be added to the list.
As a former celebrity makeup artist and cosmetics industry insider, I’ve spent my fair share of time over the years developing, testing and using everything from the cheapest drugstore varieties to the most over the top prestige brands. For now though, I’ll focus on the tried and true beauty products that should be inducted into this year’s beauty hall of fame.
The list goes on and on, but I’ll offer only seven (in no particular order) so you can treat yourself to something new every day of the week.
COVER GIRL TRUBLEND FIXSTICK CONCEALER
If you’re not a fan of stick concealer, this magic wand is not for you. If you’re good at dabbing instead of blending, this could be the answer to your dreams. Perfect for covering up small skin imperfections and age spots and for when you don’t want a full face of foundation or even the heaviness that sometimes comes with BB creams. Dab onto a dark spot and then use a small point brush if you need to blend simply the edges outward. Also great for veins and small skin discolorations.
MAYBELLINE BABY LIPS
I could write an ode to this amazing little lip balm. The packaging is retro and it’s just chubby enough and colorful enough to resemble a higher end Japanese line. The texture is sheer, the colored versions offer just enough coverage. And yes, I do have one in nearly every color. Bottom line- my lip balm/gloss crush.
CUREL ORIGINAL DAILY LOTION
I have probably tried every body moisturizer on the planet (and probably a few from other galaxies!) all jokes aside, Curel seems to figure out the exact right amount of moisture needed without clogging pores or leaving a greasy feeling. Even great for rough patches on elbows. Curel, I can’t quit you.
MAYBELLINE DREAM LUMI HIGHLIGHTING CONCEALER
A few years back YSL launched their Touche Eclat and nearly every high end brand followed suit. I’ll admit that I was skeptical when faced with the drugstore versions, but I’ll admit that this little concealer will add some light to even the most tired eyes and a little lift to the corners of your mouth. Use wherever you want a little bit of luminosity. Check your face in natural and artificial light though, since overzealous application might have you looking like a reverse raccoon.
L’OREAL VOLUMIZING VOLUME BUILDING MASCARA
When this mascara first debuted I’d treat myself to a new tube every other week. Then I became enamored with all the newest developments in mascara and forgot about my old standby. A few weeks ago I picked up my eyelashes’ former BFF and could not believe just how great both the brush and product were. Perfect, even application and amazing pigment. Best of all the staying power, my lashes didn’t wilt even after an endless day followed by an evening out.
NEUTROGENA RAIN BATH
I know that this technically isn’t a beauty product, but I always feel invigorated and ready for anything after using Rain Bath. And while there are new and improved formulations and fragrances and bath and shower experiences, the classic scent has some secret alchemy that makes me feel prettier and makes men want to bury their faces in my neck (not random creepy men though, don’t worry). Seriously. Go sniff some, it’s addictive and amazing. (and it lasts forever).
OLAY REGENERIST REGENERATING LOTION WITH SUNSCREEN BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 15
I’m not going to nag you to always wear sunscreen (but you know you should, right?) but I will say that if you happen to want your face to always look soft and dewy and smooth and you happen to use this product, you’ll be simultaneously protecting your skin from harmful rays.
And no, I have no idea how I stopped at only seven. More best drugstore buys definitely coming in the near future!
