6 Ways To Sweat Proof Your Look

We’ve partnered with, a Procter & Gamble brand, to bring you some of our favorite home and beauty tips, advice and expertise.

While it’s somewhat counterintuitive, the warming climes of spring and summer do not lend themselves well to makeup primers. But how else can you keep your look going strong while enjoying the outdoors?

When temperatures rise, we need to do all we can to keep our makeup from wilting five minutes after application.

Here are my six best anti-sweat beauty tactics to keep your perspiration from preempting your pretty.

1. Keep Moisturizing Your Face

A common way to combat extra sweat and uninvited shine on your face during the warmer months is to skip putting on moisturizer. But friends, this is a bad idea. Your skin still needs moisture no matter what the temp, and skipping this step can actually result in increased sebum production. You don’t have to use a thick formula — use a light BB cream with SPF which will both moisturize and add a hint of coverage while protecting your skin from the sun’s rays. One to try? Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream.

2. Use Powder, Please

Keeping a compact with pressed powder (try CoverGirl Clean Pressed Powder) on hand for on-the-go touchups is key in the summer. Who wants to get stuck looking shiny and slick in any and all Instagrams? Blot your T-zone with a powder shade as close to your own skin tone as possible for an instantly fresh-looking complexion.

3. Wear Waterproof Eye Makeup

In the stagnant heat of summer, you’re going to want to keep your eye makeup as simple as possible, and using a waterproof formula is a must. A couple of layers of CoverGirl’s Waterpoof Clump Crusher Mascara and a tight-lined eye are all you need for a light — yet lovely — warm-weather look.

When you tight-line, apply an eyeliner like CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in the Black Fire hue on the waterline of the top lid, which will provide the illusion of thicker, more luscious lashes.

4. Bring on the Blush

Cream blush is great any other time of year, but July and August are brutal — too brutal — for a moist, hydrating veil of color. You need to bring out the big guns, and use a traditional powder blush with staying powder. Try CoverGirl Cheekers Blush in Classic Pink.

5. Get Stained

Just the thought of wearing a bold lip in a tropical temperature feels heavy. Between Memorial and Labor Days, opt for a sheer lip stain instead. You’ll get long-lasting color and a sweet, stained look that can often pass for your natural lip color. Popsicle shades tend to look the prettiest for summer. Try CoverGirl Outlast LipStain in Everbloom Kiss.

6. Go Easy on the Body Lotion

Showing some skin between May and September is in. Not so in is schvitzing straight through your sundresses after mere minutes. When a thick body lotion comes into contact with humidity, it can be a deadly combo. The best thing to do is to apply a body lotion like Olay Ultra Moisture Lotion only to your extra dry spots: elbows, feet, knees, etc. But since you still need to keep your entire body replenished and moisturized, shower daily with an extra-hydrating body wash like Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash.
